Zen

Spread the love

The ‘young man being chased by a tiger’ is a famous Zen story, the moral of which tells us that everyone has problems, and problems don’t necessarily resolve themselves; often getting worse not better.
In Italy we have the expression, ‘It always rains on where it’s wet!’ Or in Britain we say, ‘It never rains, it only pours.’ Or perhaps that’s only talking about the weather; which is possible I suppose. I’m not sure!
Nonetheless, the thing to take away from this story is, perhaps, especially in recent times of COVID lockdowns and unforeseen hardships, often the most important thing in life is just getting through the day, and taking control of the mind and staying positive, and living in the present. Doing more than that is often counter-productive and gets you nowhere.
