Where I live, here in northern Italy, it is also with great sadness that we are apparently losing our fight for the frog. It is true that their habitat is being lost due to less marshland; drainage and different other reasons, but evidently the frog population is dying out not due to that nor anything else. They’re just dying out! Both in Italy and Switzerland here, like King Cnut, the authorities have been spending millions trying to stop them getting run over by traffic by constructing tunnels under the roads and fencing to stop them crossing at the wrong place, and protecting there natural environment, but alas to no avail. They say that in another 10 years the frogs will be no more, and it will not be for want of trying to save them.
