And so after about 3 months that Phil had been born, we went about asking Don P to perform the ceremony. Even if I had the normal um and ahing about my non conformism to the Catholic faith he finally accepted and Philip was Christened with another baby girl, whose family we later became good friends with.
Once again it was a nice ceremony, and many family and friends came to take part. Don P was a nice man, calm and pensive, which I liked a lot; it can’t be easy to live in a small community being a priest, being a friend but never crossing the boundaries of closeness. Don P kept goats and spent many an hour tending to their needs. He once confided to me, whilst chatting about the younger generation, that he often felt he understood goats better than people!
